1. Concrete/ Bridging / Abstract
- You will find an example of work done in one school district, to begin to:
- Vertically align their curriculum, seeing as it were, how measurement in the Teks flow from each grade level Kindergarten to 11 th Grade.
- Determine how each tek is to be taught: concretely, bridged or abstractly.
- Through this process, it became apparent that each grade level is expected to do specific things. Discussion as to what the expectations for each tek are, determined whether that tek was to be taught Concretely with manipulatives or models, Bridged, using manipulatives and paper pencil together, or Abstractly, where there are no models or manipulatives involved.
- This process was an eye opening experience and it is highly recommended that each mathematical strand be done in the same way to help you as the teacher, and your district, approach the Teks in the most effective and efficient way.
2. Using Manipulatives
- Manipulatives on line are a new and fascinating method of helping your students learn how mathematics works. Here are some resources for you to us.
3. Assessment
- Assessment options for Bridging from Concrete to Abstract can be found in various places. We have included a few for you to use.
