Additional Strategies to Boost Metacognition: Writing

Interactive Writing

Based on the Language Experience Approach (LEA) from reading, in which the class writes about an experience together (moving from teacher-writing, to teacher-student-writing, to student-writing)

Although typically used only with beginning readers, this can be an excellent scaffolding technique for math learners of all ages

Good for teaching early open response math problems

Potential materials include chart paper, graph paper, the overhead, etc.
